A Visual History of My Design Career

This was my first web design and development project ever. The client was a non-profit who gave me a scholarship. I designed and built the website for free while learning how to code with my college roomate.

This was an early freelance web design and development project I did for a local restaurant in New Jersey. The client was my high school english teacher.

I designed and built a custom blog and resource site for my college professor. She was great to work with and the site was really fun to make!

This was a conceptual project I did during college when the iPad was released, long before modern smart appliances were invented.

As part of a college design project, I redesigned a state website from scratch. I chose Maryland because that's where I was born.

I designed a mobile app for the state of Maryland with a focus on getting constituents to the most relevant content as quickly as possible.

This was a conceptual website I designed for a fictional television network that pushed me out of my comfort zone at the time.

As part of a college project, I redesigned the homepage for the R.I.T. university website using the content from the real website.

During my first internship, I helped design an enterprise portal for Porsche, working directly with the client in Germany.

I designed and built a new website (with CMS) for Sigma Kappa at Michigan State University. My cousin was the president of the chapter which is how I got the project!

I worked with a friend to design a new marketing website for the Sugarhoot Bake Shop in New Milford Connecticut.

During one of my college internships, I had the opportunity to design mobile experiences for PayPal—one of the first major brands I ever worked with.

For a college project, I designed a Range Rover–style automotive dashboard—an exercise that showed me how user context shapes interface design.

For a college project, I had to invent and brand a fictional wine company, design the bottles, and create a unique marketing website using all the assets.

I worked with Backbase to design a component library for their enterprise software. I remember feeling overwhelmed and in unfamiliar territory.

In the golden age of "microsites", I got to design and build this one for the 2012 RIT homecoming, including the hockey graphics.

At the peak of skeuomorphic design, this was an unused concept for my company's design agency website. I tried to make it feel like a physical dumbwaiter system.

While working at a small web design agency, I created this unique marketing website for a local distillery, putting skeuomorphic style to better use.

While this design felt a bit underwhelming at the time, this marketing website reset my visual preferences and creativity. I remember appreciating the fonts, color scheme, and strong grid layout.

Codify was one of the most long, detailed, and challenging projects I've ever worked on. The app was designed to enhance the accuracy of alumni databases by auto syncing contact with the university info whenever someone changed phone numbers or addresses.

My task was to design a nationwide system for displaying municipal codes, minutes, agendas, budgets, and more. Given the massively complex hierarchy, I modeled the UX after the Bible (book > chapter > article > part).

A high school friend was debuting her first solo album and needed an album cover and small promotional marketing website.

I designed and built a custom marketing website for a local steel manufacturer. This is still one of my favorite projects of all time. I remember being proud of the home page carousel, in-page navigation, and visual style which was modeled after their physical warehouse.

A distant relative owned a storage facility and needed a simple, low-budget, one-page site to help market the business.

I had the pleasure of designing a unique microsite for the R.I.T. President's Alumni Ball which I attended in 2013.

I helped design an dashboard experience for students to manage their account, see events, curriculum, courses, and more — all in one place.

This was a freelance project for a company that helped create, edit, and maintain your wikipedia page for accuracy and authenticity.

This was a marketing website small project I did for a national sweepstakes company. I remember the client not communicating effectively and the designs suffered as a result.

I helped design a unique experience for the Bully Hill Winery in the Finger Lakes region of New York. We optimized the home page to boost foot traffic.

I had the pleasure of working with CompassCare to redesign their dated marketing website, making it much more approachable and comforting for visitors in the midst of a high-stress situation.

This was a quick and easy marketing website I designed and built for a local client while working at Dumbwaiter Design in Rochester, NY.

I designed a full marketing website for General Code after the successful launch of their eCode360 municipal code product.

I designed and built a promotional website for Jess Best, a close friend and nationally recognized opera singer! This was one of my first times working with immersive and professional imagery.

This was a unique take on a learning platform that gamified leaning a new language. I designed the product experience and marketing website.

This was by far one of the most unique website experience I've ever designed. The client wanted something totally unique, so I designed a full-page grid of interactive tiles as navigation — something no one has done before and never will again.

At the time, this was my most valuable freelance project. It was a single page marketing website for an emerging real estate company that featured a savings calculator. The client was elated.

This was a super fun and unique website for Troyer Racecars. There were two distinct audiences, so I designed an immersive "choose your path" layout for the homepage that guided users into the correct area of the website.

This was my first full-scale redesign of my own website since graduating college. It was all about me and did very little to attract freelance clients, but it looked awesome!

This was a redesign of a marketing website for a language-based travel company. I was extremely proud of this design, but the client wanted a lot of revisions and didn't seem impressed.

I worked with American Express as a freelancer to design a revolutionary peer-to-peer mobile banking experience. I even reviewed my work in-person from their 70th floor offices in New York City!

I designed a new landing page for the AMEX gold card.

I designed a brand new marketing website for the agency I worked for from 2012-2015. This was the best version of the website yet, focused on our ideal clients and showcasing our work and team in the most professional way possible.

I designed and branded this small, one-page microsite as a launchpad for a client who was launching 3 distinct businesses under one company umbrella.

This was a novel social media platform for homeowners where they could share DIY projects and get feedback from others. This was one of the projects that served as the catalyst for my transition into full-time freelancing.

I designed and built a custom website for a close friend who started her own massage therapy business. The site is still live and in use over 10 years later!

This was my redesigned website and blog after repositioning myself for my ideal clients. At the time, I was writing for freelancers and clients. This was an earlier version of this very website!

This was a straightforward marketing website design and build for a software company. I got the client through a friend who was a marketing professional.

I was hired to design a logo for an internal forecasting tool built by the team at Facebook (now Meta). I used the negative space to imply a telescope was looking into the future.

While doing freelance design work for Bloomberg, I redesigned an outdated media player that queued video assets to be streamed on Twitter (now X).

I worked with Cinematique for over 5 years (longer than any other freelance client). I designed a marketing website, shoppable video player, video editing software, and an immersive social experience for brands and creators.

I designed and built a unique marketing website for a company promoting an in-home air purification system. I also dsigned the logo and established brand guidelines.

I redesigned a complex reporting tool that gave the user nearly limitless control of the data they wanted to include by using nested operators.

I had the privilege of redesigning the online booking experience and planning workflow for Marriott International. Users could plan an entire trip (flights, hotels, cars, and activities) all in one simple experience.

I designed the first homepage for VEEPS, a new music and entertainment experience that gives fans direct "VIP" access to their favorite performers.

I designed an complete mobile app that connects used car buyers and sellers and allows them to submit and review condition reports before finalizing the transaction.

I had the privilege of designing a new marketing website, package tracking interface, and shipping cost estimator for DHL, working directly with the client in Germany.

I designed a logo, marketing website, and web software application for a new tax verification and advisory tool for accountants. This was one of my biggest freelance projects ever and took several years to complete.

I worked with my client to name the company, design a logo, and create a brand for the new tax verification tool, delivering comprehensive brand guidelines to sell the idea.

I spent several years redesigning the internal media asset management system for Bloomberg. This was by far the most complex, large-scale interface I had ever redesigned. I frequently worked from their offices in Manhattan, collaborating closely with employees to understand their pain points and design an experience that made internal workflows easier and more efficient. I can't show the actual UI I designed, so I re-designed and re-branded the entire interface so I can showcase it here.

I designed and built a custom website for the National American HotShot Trucking Association that promotes benefits like a free fuel card and trailer packages.

I designed a new marketing website for Selected, a startup that connects teachers with schools, students, and families. I also designed the entire web application and to date this is the single largest project I did where the client paid entirely upfront!

I designed and built a new marketing website for SolidGigs, a platform that sends fresh, relevant project leads to freelancers.

I designed and built an award-winning custom marketing website for a home renovation company in Rochester, NY. The website generates dozens of high-quality leads per year and is super easy to manage in Wordpress.

I designed a new forensic accounting software that enables financial exploitation experts to automate the investigation process. The company acquired within just a few years after launching!

I established a name, logo, and brand for a new forensic account software.

I designed and built a custom marketing website to promote the new forensic accounting software. To date, FraudFindr is the single largest freelance project I've ever won. It took over a year to design the branding, software, and marketing website.

TaxExact, Knaub Home Solutions, and FraudFindr all won international design awards in 2021!

I designed a brand identify for my brother who is a professional glassblower in Corning, NY. He's worked at the Corning Museum of Glass, Vitrix Glass Studio, and as an independent artist. The brand has helped drive awareness to his work and reputation in the glass community.

Knaub Home Solutions and FraudFindr both won international design awards in 2023!

I designed and built a custom marketing website and beauty blog for my wife. We designed the site together and it's helped her not only land more bridal clients, but create valuable relationships with affiliate brands.

To this day, my website is still my greatest client. I'm actively working on it all the time and over 50,000 freelancers come here each year to get the guidance they need to build confidence, land clients, and get paid as new freelancers.

For the last few years, I've been leading design for the Instacart Business team, shipping valuable features like Invoicing, Tax Exemptions, Order Approvals, Spend Limits, Order Guides, and more.
